Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of self-awareness, other-awareness and empathy ability of nursing students.

Methods : Participants in this study were 195 nursing students and data were collected using structured questionnaires. The data were collected from April 24 until 28, 2017. All data were analyzed using SPSS version 18.0 program, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and
Multiple Regression.

Results : The mean score of self-awareness, other-awareness and empathy ability of the participants were 3.43, 3.37 and 3.60. There were significant positive correlations between self-awareness and empathy ability((r£½.53, p£¼.005). and between other-awareness and empathy ability(r£½.25, p£¼.005). showed significant positive correlation with empathy ability. And, self-Awareness was the biggest prediction factor influencing empathy ability.

Conclusion : This basic information may be used to structure intervention on empathy enhancement. These findings suggest that necessary to develop an intervention program and apply it to improve empathy.
